The story emerges

Here is an introduction to the story of Private Eye!  More will be revealed later but hopefully this will get you excited.

Open your eyes - you've been in an accident.  You're told you will never walk again.

Back in your apartment you struggle with a thick fog that now engulfs your memory. The accident has not only paralyzed your body but also your mind. You stare hopelessly out of the window in an attempt to recognize a now alien New York neighborhood.

In amongst a sea of seemingly foreign possessions, a pair of old, warn binoculars hold your gaze. Slowly, the fog begins to clear as the first glimpse of your past emerges...

Private Eye puts the player in the role of the 1950's New York detective Sam Sunderland, faced with the task of piecing back together his memory after an accident has left him with severe amnesia. But in the city that never sleeps, Sam has even bigger concerns: a high profile murder has taken place on his doorstep, and there are fears the killer will strike again. Confined to his apartment but armed with a pair of binoculars, Sam must use his unique vantage point to unmask the killer. However, with his memory no longer intact, everybody's a suspect.

But this all feels too familiar... Does the answer to this mystery already lie somewhere within himself? Sam realizes that this is one investigation which will lead him outside of his window and inside his mind...

Private Eye grows some

Surprisingly I see that over a whole month has passed since the Private Eye starting gun went off. Time has absolutely flown by and although there hasn't been much blog action here this isn't a reflection of what has been going on behind the scenes.  The most major thing to report is that Private Eye has gone from a 'me' to a 'we'.  Specifically, Private Eye has joined to it's ranks:

Penelope Lunn: Ex-motion capture actress turned scriptwriter
Stuart Brown: All things art, animation and making things look awesome
Oliver Winks: Someone to thankfully take lead programming duties away from me

We already have a fantastic team who are capable of creating something awesome, but I hope within the next few weeks we can continue to grow to really produce the vision we have.  I think I can speak for us all to say that we wholeheartedly appreciate everyone that is interested in our little Oculus project.  We hope we can flourish Private Eye into a great, indie title that is both an original and an interesting take on the traditional "find an object" game mechanic but will also immerse and involve the player in a truly cinematic, tense experience.  It will be a one-shot type of game but we plan on making it fire like a bullet to the head!

Hopefully you have seen the game trailer or played the demo and have an idea of what Private Eye is all about.  But expect a lot to change.  We will be divulging juicy details on the new incarnation of the game, of which there are many, as well as providing you with the story synopsis which has become the focal part of the experience.  Stay tuned and expect an update shortly.

Big thanks, Jake

Private Eye blog is born

Due to the encouraging words of friends, family and everyone on the Oculus VR forum I have made the (maybe unwise) decision to continue development of my little Oculus Jam game - Private Eye.
For those who are unaware the game pits you as a private investigator pinned to a wheelchair. Using a pair of binoculars you peer into neighbour's windows to gather clues to the identity of a killer before he strikes again (think shameless 'Rear Window' ripoff!). I put together a trailer (which naturally shows all the best bits) but if you don't want any spoilers please go ahead and download and play the game first (link below).

I hope this blog will keep updated, be of interest to people and to give others the opportunity to lend their opinions and suggestions. I hope at the end of this journey I have a true and proper game I can be proud of and can be enjoyed by all.

Right let's get started...
